3 Races, 3 Winners, 3 Point Leaders!!

Easter Update: In what is shaping up to be the best battle for the Yarbrough Trophy in its storied 4 season history, Brazillian Louis O'Carroll currently sits atop the Championship Standings.

Going into this past 3 race stretch, Reno Raines was enjoying a comfortable 20 point lead over Steve Eymann in the standings when disaster fell at Lime Rock MC. After an excellent qualifying effort in his Honda, Raines was involved in controversial pass by 2nd place championship contender Steve Eymann. Raines, seemingly unaware of Eymann's presence on his right side, made contact with Eymann's Cooper and crashed hard into the embankment destroying his Honda. While Reno ended up in 12th position scoring only 4 points, Eymann would fight his way to the lead and win the Connecticut Hillclimb Trophy scoring a total of 21 points. Rounding out the podium finishers would be Louis O'Carroll in his Cooper and Matt Skowronski in the Brabham.

Even though Raines carried the lead in the Championship Standings out of Lime Rock MC, the lead would soon evaporate as he would be unable to attend the historic Grosser Preis von Deutschland at the Green Monster...the Nurburgring. League veteran and past Dixie Champion Matt Skowronski would capture his first win of the season at the Nurburgring in a hard faught battle with Steve Eymann. Eymann would eventually succomb to his own mistakes giving Skowronski a comfortable win over 2nd place John Dantzler and 3rd place finisher Louis O'Carroll. With the absence of Reno Raines and the mistakes of Steve Eymann, John Dantzler would move back on top of the Championship Standings with O'Carroll only 3 points behind. However, that lead would not last long...

Reno Raines would return to the circuit with avengence at the Grosser Preis von Osterreich at Zeltweg. In what seemed to be a 4 car battle for the lead in the early stages, Raines would soon pull away as he was in top form at Zeltweg capturing the pole, fastest lap, and the victory in his Scuderia Ferrari. Rounding out the podium finishers would be Louis O'Carroll in the Lotus and Steve Eymann in a Ferrari.

After 4 straight 5th place finishes to start the season, Louis O'Carroll would take 3 straight podium finishes to capture the lead in the Championship Standings by one point over John Dantzler. Close behind though, are the prowling lions Raines and Eymann both with 93 points. With only 5 races left in the season, the top 4 drivers are within only 7 points of each other. At this point, its anybody's Trophy.

Eymann is Victorious in Mexico

Steve Eymann captured his second win of the season in the BRM Spec race at Mexico City. The pole sitter Reno Raines finished in 2nd position and takes the lead in the Championship Standings with 8 races still to go. Rounding out the top 3 with her first podium of the season is Dixie Runners sophmore Rachel Turner. Congratulations to the rest of the finishers in this devilish car/track combination.

The Twin Jokers Cash In at Kyalami!
Posted by John Dantzler on 03/10/2003 09:43:26.
Dixie veteran Reno Raines and rookie John Pickett both cashed in their jokers with great success finishing 1st and 2nd at Kyalami this evening. After having a miserable start to the season at Rouen, Raines in his Lotus was able to jump from 18th to 2nd in the points by doubling his 22 point race winning total. Pickett in his Ferrari also made great strides with his Joker after missing the first two races and is now tied for 3rd in points with Louis O'Carroll. Rounding out the top 3 was another rookie Johnny Ackerman in his Eagle-Weslake taking home his first podium in Dixie Runners.

Circuit Bugatti, LeMans

Canadian current Champ Steve Eymann thrilled and wowed the spectators yesterday, with a consistent, near-faultless win at the circuit dubbed 36 years previously by former world Champ Graham Hill as a "Mickey Mouse track". Eymann had little or no threat from challengers except in the eraly stages while waiting for his machinery to get to optimum race temperatures.

Dixie veteran and season 5 hopeful John Dantzler III claimed 2nd although he was mercilessly hounded for 23 out of the 24 laps, by New Englander Keith Allsop.

The event suffered an unexpectedly low number of mechanical failure - probably a tribute to the quality of the competition.

Deep South Nails its First Victory!

Rouen Les Essarts, France
Fried chicken mogul, John Dantzler III romped home with a victory in the Grand Prix De France Nord, yesterday. Dantzler opted for a clear run by choosing the Lotus as his chassis for the 18 lap event. Early season mechanical failures plagued much of the field through the race, while rookie Chris Turbert took advantage of the situation by nursing his Ferrari into a comfortable 2nd place. Antipodean driver Ron Ashendon rounded out the podium in his Ferrari 38 seconds behind Dantzler.

Notable highlights included the explosion of last season Champ Steve Eymann's Honda, on the penultimate lap. Eymann was in 2nd place at the time. Season favorite Reno Raines' enthusiastic shifting habits were too much for his Weslake hardware, which expired in lap 9.

Season 5 is Upon Us
Posted by John Dantzler on 02/18/2003 12:00:01.
Well, Season 4 wrapped up with yet another fine showing from Steve Eymann taking home his second Dixie Championship in a row. However, that was last season, and I dont think its gonna be as easy this season. With alot of new talent in the series this season, and alot of the "old" talent getting even better, Steve will definitely have his work cut out for him. As much as I would like to see the Yarbrough Trophy come back to the US, I think it could just as easily go to Australia or even Brazil this season. Good luck to you all, and I am looking forward to a really exciting season. Just so you guys and gals know what you're up against and what you are shooting for, here is a shot of the champion with the Yarbrough Trophy.

Championship Updates

Atlanta, USA

Over the last 7 weeks certain things remained as they were for the first half of the season - most importantly, Steve Eymann solidified his grip on the Championship this season, with convincing wins at Sepang and Monaco and a pair of 2nd places at Kyalami and Nurburgring. Going into the final pair of races, the Canadian national's only real threat comes from the Championship's sole lady driver, Rachel Turner, who raced home with an impressive win at the Goodwood circuit. Rachel's perseverance in the Eagle-Weslake, with a string of 2nd places finally paid off, leaving her trailing Steve's lead by a mere 31 points and 25 points clear of 3rd placed Larry "Cosworth" Heir.

The attractions in the remaining two venues, Watkins Glen and Riverside, are the chase for 3rd, with only 9 points separating John Dantzler, Paul Jackson and Larry Heir.

Cosworth powers ahead!!!!!!

The battle for the lead at Silverstone was fought by those lotus-driving aces Eymann and Dantzler. Reigning Champ Eymann managed to stay clear from the rest to take the checkered flag. A great battle ensued in the latter half of the race between Dobie's Cosworth and Rachel's AAR Eagle, ending in a dramatic finish with the out of control 3rd-placed Dobie being pipped at the post by the blue car.

Eymann and Raines Survive the Carnage!
Posted by John Dantzler on 11/08/2002 15:29:35.
Steve Eymann and Reno Raines were the sole finishers in Monday night's crash festival in Leipzig. Paul Jackson lost both of his front wheels on lap 22 while leading the race only to end up 3rd. The other 11 drivers were taken out by everything from flipping over to blowing engines. It looks like we will not be racing this track next season. ;)

The Aussie Conquers France

Australian Ron Ashenden captures his first Dixie victory in the Grand Prix de France Nord with a convincing 14 second win over Larry Heir and Reno Raines. Raines regains some his Season 3 glory with a podium finish, while Larry Heir breaks the tie for the points lead and stretches out ahead of the absent Steve Eymann. Congrats to all who finished and the best of luck to all at Leipzig...we're gonna need it. ;)

Jackson Reigns at Oulton Park
Posted by John Dantzler on 10/25/2002 01:35.13.
With challenges from both Steve and myself, Paul Jackson takes his first victory of the season at Oulton Park. Rachel Turner captures her 2nd podium finish of the season, and Sam Dobie rounds out the top 3 in his Lotus. Geoff Leonhardt and James Penney had an excellent nose-to-tail battle for almost the entire race with Geoff finally beating out James to finish 4th and 5th respectively. Congratulations to the finishers, and we will see you all at Rouen.

Eymann Does it Again
Posted by John Dantzler on 10/09/2002 16:11:46.
Steve Eymann captures the Grand Prix of Canada at his home track of Mosport. Matt Skowronski makes his first visit to the podium this season with a 2nd place in his Ferrari, and new-comer to the Dixie Runners, Rachel Turner, captures her first podium in her Cooper. Many others back in the field had a really tough evening, so congratulations to all who finished.

The Champion Returns
Posted by John Dantzler on 10/02/2002 22:59.32.
Steve Eymann makes a triumphant return to the Dixie Runners in Mexico City. Paul Jackson finished in 2nd ahead of 3rd place Larry Heir. Some excellent racing took place in mid-pack with 3rd through 7th finishing within only 3 seconds of each other. I look forward to some more close racing like that in the future. Congrats Steve.

Allan Scott is Victorious at Monza

Allan Scott comes home with a comfortable win in his Lotus at the Gran Premio d'Italia. Reno Raines challenged for the lead early, but was damaged in a minor incident in Lesmos that forced his retirement. John Dantlzer and Larry Heir round out the remaining podium positions.

Well done to all who finished, and a big thanks to everyone for a pleasant race.

Eymann Takes the Championship
